Roe v. Wade: 40 Years Later

An Emotional and Truthful Account

Fact: January 22, 2013 marks the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the case that legalized abortion in America. That means that well over 55,000,000 babies have been murdered within the womb since 1973! Abortion kills. It's that simple. The unborn are not "fetuses" or tissues. They're pre-born children. There was a 7-to-2 majority vote in favor of Roe. How could seven people decide the death sentence for over 55,000,000 unborn Americans?! Yes, abortion has been legal in America for 40 years. It is a holocaust within our own communities.

Meanwhile, Norma McCorvey (Roe of Roe v. Wade) has since become a born again Christian and a pro-life warrior. She is fighting valiantly to end abortion. She knows what it does to mothers: Their babies never cry. But the mothers do. Abortion destroys. Women who have abortions think that it will be a "quick fix." Sadly, they enter a long problem: emotional, spiritual, and physical repercussions long reverberate. They feel like something died inside...a part of them. It's true.

Abortion "procedures" are all very gruesome and yes, unborn babies do feel pain. It's never the answer. Instead, adoption is an option. All children are gifts. There are so many people who would love to adopt.

Abortion clinics snuff out lives every day. Professor Hymie Gordon of the Mayo Clinic states, "By all the criteria of modern molecular biology, life is present from the moment of conception." With the clear knowledge that life begins at conception, abortion puts the innocent to death.

God never makes mistakes: All life remains precious. In God's eyes, we all are equal. He is on the throne and He is in control. Again, God never makes mistakes.

When special needs children arrive, the Lord uses them for special purposes. Special needs children are precious blessings. They teach 'normal' people lessons we could never learn without them. Yet the medical community now advocates screening for disabled babies. Then many medical professionals suggest getting rid of the special needs babies. In fact, about 90% of unborn Down's Syndrome babies are killed in the womb! Parents, who are emotional after receiving news their child isn't "normal," find themselves in a very precarious position to receive the wrong advice. So many precious little ones are never given a chance at life! If you are currently being presented with this situation, we urge you to keep your unborn baby.

Abortion commonly causes medical problems (including cancer) for women. In addition, the emotional pain and guilt often felt after abortion are even worse. If you are thinking about having an abortion, please choose life. You won't regret it.

This month, Unite the USA is honored to share an article by Star Parker that discusses the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Roe v. Wade, 40 years later

By Star Parker

An ultrasound picture, showing the growing and moving fetus, has raised awareness that this unborn child is alive and that abortion is murder.

The number 40 has great significance in the Bible.

Perhaps best known is the 40 years that the Israelites were condemned to wander in the desert before being permitted entry into the Promised Land.

Maybe this mystical quantity will bear significance as we note, this month, the 40th year since the Roe v. Wade decision legalized abortion in America.

Forty years we have lived with the silent, and sometimes not-so-silent, holocaust in our midst as the lives of 55 million innocent and unborn children have been killed, plucked from their journey to enter this world.

Who were they? Who would they have become?

The unmarried graduate student who gave birth to hi-tech impresario and co-founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, may well have aborted this child had her pregnancy occurred in 1973 rather than 1955.

This past week former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, recovering victim of a crazed gunman, visited, along with her husband Mark Kelly, Newtown, Conn., site of the latest horrible shooting incident.

In their public remarks, they expressed concern that our society has become "desensitized to acts of violence."

Appropriate words, I think, that certainly should be considered in the broadest possible sense in our effort to grasp our willingness to tolerate, even nurture, the open and flourishing presence of evil in our society.

It takes a deadening of the soul to permit this, a state of being "desensitized."

We know it because when those senses are awakened, our indifference and willingness to tolerate evil is pushed back.

When William Wilberforce fought to abolish the slave trade in England, he moved a boatload of the elite into proximity of a slave ship to smell the stench. Their senses were awakened and a major step forward was achieved to end the horror.

Reformed slave trader John Newton composed "Amazing Grace," with the unforgettable line "Was blind but now I see."

If there is good news, it is that, slowly, America seems to be coming to its senses regarding destruction of unborn children.

This week's Time magazine cover story announces "40 years ago abortion-rights activists won an epic victory with Roe v. Wade: They've been losing ever since."

But in noting that ultrasound has reduced the willingness of Americans to tolerate abortion, author of the story Kate Pickert misses the key point when she writes, "Thanks to prenatal ultrasound, Americans now understand what a fetus looks like and that babies born as early as 24 weeks can now survive."

The key point is that the graphic ultrasound picture, showing the growing and moving fetus, has raised awareness that this unborn child is alive and that abortion is murder.

Ultrasound is sensitizing a desensitized American public that has been willing to tolerate this horror over these 40 years.

Wars are not won overnight. Victory is achieved battle by battle.

Wilberforce did not stop slavery, but he stopped the slave trade.

President Abraham Lincoln's first aspiration was not total abolishment of slavery in America, but making it illegal in new entrants to the Union.

A battle before us now, as the American soul awakens to the evil of abortion, is to end the expropriation of U.S. taxpayer funds, which provide almost half the budget of the nation's largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.

According to Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., Planned Parenthood's latest annual report shows receipt of $542 million from U.S. taxpayers. This is outrageous, particularly when every other day we witness a new confrontation in Washington to find ways to cut our trillion-dollar budget deficit.

Blackburn has introduced legislation to end this funding to large abortion providers. Every American should support this and help win this battle.

And we must continue to work to win the war and awaken the American soul, so that 40 years after Roe v. Wade we bring an end to the scourge of legal abortion in America.

Defend Your Rights

When gun control laws go into place, good guys follow the law and the bad guys don't AND the killers know the good guys can't protect themselves. As though any killer obeys the "no guns allowed" signs... C'mon, folks. Never budge a second on the Second Amendment!

On January 16, President Obama pushed 23 executive orders to amass more power and strip freedoms from Americans. He's disguising it as "compassionate gun control". This is not conservative hype. This is real. Spread the word and NOT the propaganda. The people must be heard and America must be saved! Pray. Speak. Be heard.
Live the Life Jesus Wants You to Live
If you are thinking about having an abortion, we urge you to let your baby be born. Jesus came to this world as a baby and in the most humble of circumstances. He came to us in a manger. Jesus knows more than anyone what it is like to face rejection and pain. He suffered, died on the cross, and rose again for you and me. He paid the price for our sins so that we can be saved. Jesus said in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

He loves you. He can make a way when there seems to be so way. Focus on Jesus and think of His great love for you. Learn more at www.PrayingPals.org.
