MOINES, IA) Dedicating their singing to
veterans, Iowa sisters Stacie and Carrie Stoelting sang “God Bless the USA" at the Harvest Festival hosted by Governor
Kim Reynolds. The tribute to heroes prompted a passionate response from the audience: The crowd stood up, waved, and gave
a standing ovation. Second Lady and military mom, Karen Pence, joined Governor Reynolds were visibly moved while cheering
for our heroes during the song.
The Second Lady of the United States made a special trip to Iowa to speak at the governor’s
3rd annual Harvest Festival in Des Moines, Iowa. Hundreds of Iowans attended Saturday’s special event.
In addition to Mrs. Pence and Governor Reynolds, U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley, and U.S. Senator Joni Ernst also addressed the
Carrie Stoelting shared, “We believe that ‘God Bless the USA’ captures the spirit
of American patriotism. It was special to sing it for Gov. Reynolds and Mrs. Pence – who is a military mom. We felt
so thankful to honor veterans and their families. It was just a wonderful evening celebrating faith and freedom!”
Karen Pence provided the main address of the evening. One aspect of her speech focused on our nation’s
heroes. She emphasized the importance of supporting veterans and their families. She is a Blue Star mom with a son in the
U.S. Marine Corps. She honored veterans and military spouses by having them stand during the event.
